Identify the layers in the proposal

GAF’s LIBERTY component list includes base/ply sheets, cap sheets, primer, and flashing cement. Use that list as an example of why a roll-roof product name should be accompanied by the contractor’s complete system description.

Distinguish product selection from installation work

Ask the installer to state which manufacturer system they intend to use and which listed components apply to your roof. Have them describe the condition they expect beneath it and the assessment needed before confirming that condition. Keep any uncertain removal or substrate preparation visible in the proposal. The term self-adhering describes a product approach; it should not be taken as a reason to skip professional review of the whole assembly.

Build a delivery and scope record

Prepare a sheet with rows for base layer, exposed cap layer, primer, edge work, and penetration work. Let the roofer fill in exact products and quantities rather than guessing them yourself. Include a column for where each product is used and another for approved substitutions. Ask for package-label photographs at delivery so the final records identify what was supplied. Those photographs are documentation, not proof that hidden installation work was performed correctly.

Decide on the entire system

If a lower-priced alternate changes the number of layers or substitutes components, ask the installer to explain the new assembly in writing and provide its supporting manufacturer documents. Do not evaluate the change solely by the color of the exposed roll. Keep any porch, garage, and main-roof quantities separate when planning. The roofing calculator supplies national reference context only; the final comparison needs the complete low-slope scope and the contractor’s specific quote.

Putting it into practice

The page addresses missing components in a self-adhering roll-roof proposal, distinct from choosing where a low-slope system belongs. A delivery record gives the homeowner an identifiable system without teaching installation.
